Hello! I am Mackenzie Albright and I am a senior in high school in Kansas City, Missouri. I am beyond excited to start my journey and I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I will be leaving home for 9 months soon!
To let you know a little bit more about me, I love to spend time with my family and friends and go on all sorts of adventures! Some things I enjoy doing are hiking, trying new restaurants, traveling, thrift shopping, cooking, and many other random activities. All four years in high school I played tennis, and even though I am not very good I still loved it and made some incredible memories. I work as a nanny and babysit for many different families. Kids are definitely one of my passions. Pre-COVID I frequently volunteered with the children's ministries and did an internship at the church!
Speaking of church, another big part of who I am is my story of how I found Christ. I have always grown up in the church but when I started to make my own decisions about my faith was when I was in 6th grade. My youth group went to a conference and that is where I decided to give my life to Christ. Since then I have been to many other conferences and continue to go to youth group! Another huge part of my faith is mission trips. I have been on to the Pine Ridge Native American Reservation 3 different times where we worked with the local organizations there. These experiences completely changed my life and gave me a new perspective on the way that I treat others. The most recent mission trip I went on was to Guatemala in March of this year. That trip was a big test of faith for my family and me because about a week into the trip the borders closed and my group and I were stuck there. After a week of tears, prayers, and hard work by many people we were able to make it back.
My mom found out about World Race Gap Year through a friend and when she showed me a video explaining what it was about I knew it was something that was right for me. After lots of prayers and talks with my family and friends, I decided it was something I was serious about and really wanted to do.
I am so excited for this journey! Thank you for all of the support!
